Friends of the Japanese Friendship Garden
A Living Symbol of Friendship: The Garden was built as a symbol of everlasting friendship between the City of San Jose and its Sister City of Okayama, Japan in 1965 and is patterned after the world famous Korakuen Garden in Okayama. In every direction the eye is delighted, complete with picturesque Japanese bridges, waterfalls and golden Koi fish.
Our Nikkei Matsuri Connection
The Japanese Friendship Garden is a natural extension of San Jose Japantown, with many Japantown residents having taken part in the development and construction of the Garden. Just as Nikkei Matsuri seeks to perpetuate the Japanese American experiences, cultural customs, and traditions, the Japanese Friendship Garden is a physical reminder of our relationship to Japan and its culture, customs and traditions.
