Boy Scouts Troop 611
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
Chartered by the San Jose Buddhist Church, Boy Scout Troop 611 carries a tradition of citizenship and service. The troop’s commitment to their community shows through their active participation at local annual events like San Jose’s Nikkei Matsuri, Obon Festival, and Cemetery Clean-up at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
The troop also hosts an annual fundraising dinner. Proceeds go towards activities such as campouts, hikes and summer camp.
Our Nikkei Matsuri Connection
The scouts have participated in the Nikkei Matsuri event in past years, selling Chicken Salad in 2018 and Imagawayaki in 2019. Imagawayaki is a Japanese pastry. The boys were kept busy mixing, cooking, packaging, and selling. It took teamwork to keep up with the demand, as there was a long line of customers outside the booth all day long! It is a win-win situation for the boys. They get lots of learning opportunities, while participating in the Japanese-American cultural event. They even get to hear the taiko drummers playing just down the street.
