Wesley Ukulele Band

About
Aloha! The Wesley Ukulele Band (‘WUB’) was founded in 2004 for the purpose of fellowship through the fun and challenge of learning to play the ukulele, generously hosted by the Wesley United Methodist Church located in Japantown (San Jose, CA).

In past years WUB has performed (live) at Wesley Church worship services and community functions such as Aki Matsuri, Luau Fund Raising Event (hosted by Missions Committee), and Hanging of the Greens (a pre-Christmas fellowship event). In addition, we have performed in the larger community events such as Nikkei Matsuri, Cherry Blossom Festivals (Cupertino and SF), and festivals at Bay Area sister churches. WUB has also been blessed with many opportunities to provide entertainment at senior and Alzheimer care centers.

We currently have about 25 folks active in our core group, and overall about 50 members. For the past year our rehearsals have been virtual (i.e., online), and we have been fortunate to participate in virtual festivals: Nikkei Matsuri, Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival, Seoul Aloha Christmas Festival, Seoul International Aloha Online Ukulele Festival, and the Midori Kai Arts & Craft e-Boutique. Mahalo!

Our Nikkei Matsuri Connection
Last year was to be the inaugural appearance of the Wesley Ukulele Band at Nikkei Matsuri, but, alas, it was not meant to be due to the cancellation of the 2020 event. As attendees, WUB members have fond memories of the delicious food, interesting artisans and their wares, and, of course, the entertainment, including the Wesley Jazz Band.
