The Nikkei Matsuri Foundation is committed to giving back to our community. Please share these scholarship opportunities:

AWARDS:

2025 Jimi Yamaichi Japanese Cultural Arts Scholarship:

  • First place: $1,000
  • Runner up: $500 (up to two recipients may be selected)

Eligibility: any high school junior or senior who practices, performs, or studies a Japanese and/or Hawaiian cultural art; priority given to those who have participated in Nikkei Matsuri.

2025 Warren Hayashi Japanese Cultural Arts Grant: $1,000

Eligibility: teachers, teacher cohorts, cultural schools, and community organizations teaching a Japanese and/or Hawaiian cultural art; priority given to those who have participated in Nikkei Matsuri

*NEW* San Jose Japantown Community Grant

Eligibility: an individual, organization, or business that serves San Jose Japantown by perpetuating the Japanese-American experiences, cultural customs, and traditions.
*The San Jose Japantown Community Grant will be available to the community throughout the year. The award amounts will vary based on need and availability of funds. The intent of this grant is to invest up to 10% of the proceeds from the annual Nikkei Matsuri Festival to promote the sustainability and vibrancy of San Jose Japantown.

FOCUS AREAS:

Focus areas for both the scholarship and grant are Japanese, Japanese-American, and/or Hawaiian culture and history in the fields of music, fine arts, dance, folk art, and martial arts.

RESTRICTIONS:

Scholarship/grant funds must be used to pay for tuition, supplies, and/or honorarium for guest instructors. Funds may not be used for salary.

REVIEW PROCESS:

All applications are reviewed by the Giving Back Committee and Nikkei Matsuri Foundation Board.
The application deadline has been extended to Wednesday, April 23!.
